Stylistics tells us that all languages have different varieties for different functions, and each variety displays a fairly regular set of features. So in translation, it is far from enough to simply convey the original information or content from the source text to the target text. The translated text must be adapted to the original, in terms of linguistic type and general effect.Different styles contain different stylistic features. Only after an overall analysis of the stylistic features of the language variety, can the translator render this type of text successfully, and can the text in the target language play the role equivalent to that of the text in the source language. That is why translation theorists from both China and Western countries all take "closeness in style" or "equivalent to style" as the major translation criterion.A great importance has been attached to the stylistic study of the literary style; on the contrary, the study of the non-literary style has been neglected, for some people hold the false idea in mind that translating texts in non-literary style is so easy that it is unnecessary for them to make a systematic study on the stylistic features of the non-literary text.In this thesis, the author makes an overall analysis of the stylistic features of both literary texts and non-literary texts, and also makes a tentative study on the methods of translating both literary and non-literary styles.
