Under the guidance of Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism, a systematic and tentative research on value and target orientation of the current history education in normal colleges and universities is made in this thesis. By focusing on the practical problems from different angles and social levels, it makes full use of the abundant literature and research materials. The primary content of the thesis includes the following four parts:In the first part, the problems in the current value orientation of history education in normal colleges and universities are analyzed in an overall approach, mainly manifested as: (i) imbalance of value structure; (ii) misfit of value guidance; (iii) deviation of individual value orientation; (iv) lack of value education of history.The factors that influence the changes of value orientation of history education in normal colleges and universities at present are investigated at different social levels in the second part, among which the first one is the impact of market economy, the second one is the delay of the reforms of educational systems and the third one is the increase of the individual educational consciousness of students.The new trends of development are identified in the third part in light of the current situations of history education in normal colleges and universities. Suggestions are provided: highlighting professional education for skills; emphasizing individualized education; and advocating independent innovative education.In the fourth part, taking the successful experiences and lessons of the reforms of history education in normal colleges and universities in the past into consideration, the author put forward with the target orientation for the reforms of history education in normal colleges and universities: firstly, focusing on middle schools and giving prominence to the characteristics of normal education; secondly, cultivating market-oriented and compound talents mastering many skills while specializing in one; thirdly, emphasizing on individuals and attaching importance to the cultivation of personality; fourthly, referring to advanced models of history education overseas to embrace the tide of globalization.In the ending part, based on the attempts to solve the problems raised in the thesis, the author tries to conclude some valuable experiences and lessons with practical meaning, and put forward with the author's own humble opinions.
