China has been regarded as a well-civilized and well-etiquetted country since the old times. The civilization of Chinese etiquette, the symbol of china culture, is one of the essential characteristics of differing Chinese culture from others. The system of Chinese etiquette is a specific, distinguishing and great contribution made by China to the civilization of the whole world. As the core of Chinese traditional culture, the etiquette, combined with every aspects of it, has founded the base for the Chinese culture and developed its particular cultural mode. By combing the whole nation's material well-beings, rite and system, as well as spirit of etiquette together, the Chinese etiquette leads to the specific features of Chinese culture.In the thought of those pre-qin confucianists, the importance of etiquette had been emphasized. They pointed out that the etiquette is the principle and guideline of a country. "A country is not equitable without etiquette." "A country is not in peace without etiquette." That is to say, the governing of a country must follow the principles of the etiquette. Meanwhile, they also noticed the importance of the etiquette in individual's morality. As it says: "a man is not a human without etiquette," thus, the etiquette is not only regulate the status of individual person in society, but also become the principle and model of them. As to the question that whether human being is born with etiquette, Mencius developed the doctrine of good human nature, while Hsun Tzu concluded the doctrine of evil human nature. However, although they disagree with the nature of human being, they both insisted that the human nature must be educated, and educating oneself with etiquette must be an heritage of all the Confucians.The etiquette education of the Confucian, a fundamentally essential part of the Confucianism, is a multi-leveled and multi-dimensioned moral educational system, covering the system, rite and spirit of etiquette.
