In traditional western literary theory, reading is an area to which scholars have not paid enough attention to, leaving many empty spaces still requiring further research. The most representative figure of Reception Aesthetic Wolfgang Iser not only studies reading, but also developed a new style to analyze based on Phenomenology methodology and sets up the unique"theory of aesthetic response."The crisis of literary theory led by multiple culture context in 20th century and the economic crisis early in the 1960s, offers a beneficial environment and proper opportunity for Iser's"theory of aesthetic response". Meanwhile, this theory accords with the logy of literary theory's development in those years, and has certainty and necessity. Iser's reading study involves the achievement of Phenomenology, Modern Hermeneutics and Gestalt Psychology, among others. He absorbs and reforms the reasonable factors and thus achieves continuity, dialectic in reading study. The"theory of aesthetic response"contains the theory of phenomenology text, the theory of reader and the theory of literary communication. In the theory of phenomenology text, Iser firstly questions the tradition literary ontology, and points out that function inference should represent ontology inference, and gives up searching for literary essence. In this way, Iser puts reader and reading action into text. After that, Iser makes a thorough inquiry about the intrinsic compose of literary—"repertoire and strategies"."Repertoire and strategies"reveals a close relationship between text and reality. That's one of the essential terms for text and reader to exchange smoothly. In the theory of reader, Iser advances a new concept—"implied reader"belongs to text, different form"real reader". It includes two basic connotations: that the reader belongs to text and reader who take part in the creation. The reader is then absorbed in the text.
