During the period of dyarchy constitution, the Karens demanded for a Karen state from the British government, which was not only the result of the Karen nationalism but also the constitutional reform and the emergence of the Burmese nationalism. In a sense, the delay of constitutional reform activized Burmese national emotion, and then impelled the movement of Burmese nationalism. When the dyarchy constitution was in practice, the Karens had to accepted the disadvantage of new constitution and the pressure of Burmese nationalism. To maintain their benefits and strengthen the identity of Karen people, some Karen elites intended to found a Karen state. Before the independence of Burma, the project was brought out once again in a new form.Although their project could not be put into pratice under such circumstances, it still had a far-reaching influence on the development of Burma after its independence.
