After the World War II,when the wave of national liberation movement swept through Southeast Asia,the British colonists were forced to withdraw from Burma,which gave Burma the opportunity of independence.At the same time,the ethnic contradiction in Burma gradually rose to the main contradiction of the society.Also,the mountain minorities began their national separatist movement to pursue the political demand that National Independence.As a prominent manifestation of the ethnic contradictions in Burma,the mountain separatist movement plays a significant role in the construction of the nation-state of Burma.Firstly,this paper analyzes the origin and development of the mountain separatist movement from 1945 to 1988.Secondly,it analyzes the causes of its occurrence from the historical and cultural differences and political perspectives.Finally,it summarizes the characteristics of the separation movement.Through the study of the separatist movement of mountain minorities in Burma,it can be seen that the national separatist movement is one of the major obstacles to the development of the nation-state of Burma and the progress of its social and economic development.On the one hand,the government of Burma should abandon the "Great Burmism",and carry out democratic reform in politics,to correctly handle ethnic relations in accordance with the principles of equality of all ethnic groups and the common development of all ethnic groups.On the other hand,mountain minorities should also assess the situation and enhance their national identity to eliminate national separatism. |
