A Study Of China English And Its Significance In TEFL

English has now become a multinational, multicultural, multifunctional and international language. As an important means of communication, language is always in motion, and the contact of different languages causes their variation. The concept of "World Englishes" means that English is no longer what it used to be. The internationalization of English brings about the nativization of English across the world. The nativization of English in China has evolved a special variety—China English with Chinese characteristics.The present paper tries to make a status confirmation of China English, gives an overview and manifestations of it from the aspects of definition, history, culture and linguistic factors, makes a comparison between China English and Chinglish, proves the intelligibility and acceptability of China English based on the theories of L2 or EFL acquisition, and proposes some ways on how to improve our students' ability of expressing Chinese ideas in English. A survey of World Englishes and China English among university students and the data analysis show that China English is necessary in cross-cultural communications. The author holds that China English is the combination of Chinese culture and the English language and the study of China English is of great significance for TEFL in China.In spite of convergence or divergence of World Englishes, one can speculate on likely trends that English language will continue to change in the future and to respond in dynamic and unpredictable ways as its use increases across the world. China English tends to establish itself with its local characteristics alongside WorldEnglishes. In EIL context, English teaching approaches in China need to be both home culturally and target culturally sensitive; teachers are required to employ methods that are culturally sensitive and productive to facilitate the progress of China English and English education.
