At the end of the twentieth century,the increasingly intensifying trend of the economy globalization accelerates English globalization to a great extent.One major consequence of globalization of English is the existence of different varieties of English being full of regional and national characteristics.With the development of World Englishes,the study on varieties of English gradually becomes an independent discipline,in which study on China English(CE)is one of the research focuses.Many scholars have extensively researched and discussed CE from the perspective of cross-cultural communication,pragmatics,sociolinguistics and applied linguistics.In recent thirty years,there come a large number of academic research results at home and abroad on CE.However,because of controversies on several issues,study on CE in the domestic academia has been brought into a standstill that lags far behind the international academia.In order to break the current situation,from the perspective of World Englishes,the author collects,reviews and studies all the monographs and articles published on English Today and World Englishes in recent thirty years about CE.It aims to know the international trends of CE study,master new theories and methods,get some implications for CE study in domestic academia and provide some suggestions for English as a Foreign Language Teaching(EFLT)in China.For this purpose,four research questions are proposed in this paper:1.What are the international trends of CE study?2.What are the new theories and methods used in CE study in international academia?3.What implications can we get from the studies of international academia for CE study in domestic academia?4.What suggestions can be provided for EFLT by CE study?Compared with domestic academic research on CE,it can be found that the international academia enriches the research content and forms the systematic conclusion of CE study.The research method is updated and the CE corpora are established.The international academia expands the research perspective putting CE study in the context of World Englishes,objectively describe its language life and reveal the current sociolinguistic condition of CE.The research results have been applied to optimize EFLT in China,especially in the development and compilation of textbooks that integrates traditional Chinese culture into teaching materials.It is hoped that domestic academia can get some new methods and ideas from international academia so as to promote the development of CE study in domestic academia and provide some suggestions for CE study in China.
