Primary Reasearch Of Buddhist Statues Art In Longxing Temple Qingzhou

The quantity of sculptures, which excavated at LongXing Temple in Qingzhou, Shandong Province, is very large, and it also has a great variety. These statues are rare old art treasures, and it had been fine carved and painted. This archaeological discovery supplied academic circles with rich material. This dissertation gives us a minute description of Buddhist statues at LongXing Temple in Qingzhou in aspects of development, features of formative technology, decorative techniques, and the relationships with around areas.The styles of LongXing Temple's Buddhist statues are rich. Also the scholar gives much more attention to the characteristic style of Eastern Wei and Northern Qi's works. The formation of regional statues characteristic of LongXing Temple in BeiQi dynasty was infected by many elements. We can see objective reasons in highly development of Buddhist sculptures in Qingzhou from the prosperity of Buddhist culture in this period. The prosperity of Buddhist activities make the styles of LongXing Temple's sculptures partly inherited from native style in Southern Dynasties which had formed before Northern Wei Dynasty, meanwhile, the exchange Buddhist activities with other countries also imported Indian's sculpture style to Qingzhou. With influence of all elements above and also based on their own aesthetic directions, the local craftsmen created Qingzhou's local styles in sculpture. Another key point that this dissertation wants to discuss is the decorative techniques of LongXing Temple's sculptures. On the basis of discussing technological history of color decoration and covering with gold leaf on statues, this dissertation also analyzed the formation of local situation. The sculptures of LongXing Temple also have relationship with that in around area, just like ZhuCheng, BoXing, and LinQu. Knowing the relationship around this area is beneficial for us to deeply and comprehensively understand the sculptures'styles and it's important status.
