It's a necessity to study the gentry culture not only for the study of itself, but for understanding the whole culture of the era, and it's also of symbol to choose and study the Eastern Jin Dynasty and The Southern Dynasty when the power of the gentries were in a period of great prosperity. Firstly, in this period of time, the gentries were in the leadership and the emblem of wind direction from beginning to end on the aspect of culture. Secondly, the Eastern Jin Dynasty and The Southern Dynasty was a key period for the cultural development for Southern Part of Yangtze River. In this period, there were conflicts and warfare in Hu Ethnic Group in the north. To avoid the chaos of the warfare, the juniors of the gentries moved to the south in succession, which formed the greatest and most influential migrate of the northerners. Northern part was formerly the most important front for spreading the advanced culture. With the moving of the northerners to the south, two cultures of the north and the south had communicated in a great extent, which syncretized to a much higher and more mature culture. Moreover, the aboriginal gentries from the Eastern part of Yangtze River were politically suppressed by the Qiao-named families of officials for generations in a long time, so the former ones acted in a soft-pedaling way, and their cultural splendour had been blotted out by the latter, so was their cultural status. However, as a matter of fact, the aboriginal gentries from eastern part of Yangtze River had been entrenched in their places for centuries. Therefore, the groundwork of their culture was very sustainable then. Also, there were quite a few litterateurs among them as a surprising breakthrough in the literature history. Thus, the study on the families of officials for generations of the aborigines from Eastern Yangtze River shall be as a glorious part of the whole culture in Wei Dynasty, Jin Dynasty as well as the Southern and The Northern Dynasties. To sum up, in the viewpoint of the continuation of the ethnic culture and the social development of the Eastern Yangtze River area, the cultural achievements of the aboriginal gentries from Eastern Yangtze River part in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and The Southern Dynasty shall not be obliterated, which sees the meaning of the study. On the other hand, simply for the culture of the gentries from Eastern Yangtze River part itself, we can revert the history and restore their status in the history, which we shall undertake to do.
