Inter-Language is an important term in Applied Linguistics. So far all the terms and research fields in Applied Linguistics are set up by western scholars. This MA Thesis aims to give the brand new term "JY-Language" against Inter-language on the base of studies for teaching Chinese as a second language.Teachers are the organizers for the teaching activities and therefore, how teachers talk matters a lot in teaching, especially in teaching the second language (Chinese in this thesis), while there is "Inter-language" to denote learners' language, teachers' language is without any proper noun to show its connotation and features. Actually, related scholars don't have enough awareness to set up a concept for teachers ' language.We take the Chinese classes on entry level as our examples in the hope of classifying the characteristics of teachers 'language in terms of choices on language code(mainly Chinese as the target language, media language and learners' mother tongues), choices on language use(mainly from the phonetics ,vocabulary and grammar),choices on non-speech forms(postures ,pictures and gestures, etc) and choices on pragmatic strategies. From the result of our research, we induce two most eye-catching divisions and all the features of teachers' language can be classified into this two branches, i.e."Compromise" and "Elevation" with the Chinese equivalence "jie" and "yin" respectively. The term "jie yin" is originally from Buddhist sutra to show how Buddha leads the disciples to the Western Paradise. "Jie yin" can be literally translated as "meet and guide" :Buddha firstly come to meet all the believers instead of being far away and then guide all to the pure land on the other side of the sea.Enlightened by "jie" and "yin", we concretize the process of learning a second language as: meet and guide the language learners from this side (their mother tongue)to the other side of the sea(the target language). Therefore, the teachers' language can be called "Jie Yin language", shortly, "JY-Language".JY-Language and Inter-language are opposite to each other. JY-Language will develop as the Inter-language proceeds. It is parallel to the Inter-language, a little bit more advanced than it but not far away. JY-language and Inter-language move towards the target language automatically and with mutual adjustment.After finding the exact concept to express teachers' language, we go further study. On the base of the comparison between experienced teachers and green hands, 11 kinds of teaching errors are figured out among which there are overusing media languages, non-grammatical expressions, bringing in new difficulties by explaining difficulties, giving priority to the interesting content rather than the curriculum, invalid repetition & explanation and so on. All the teaching errors can be attributed to one reason, i.e. wrong estimation of Inter-language.We try to give principles for "JY-language" both objectively and subjectively. The former ones are from the angles of object restrains ,say, the duration of the teaching, the study intention of the students, the using frequency and circulation of the language forms; the latter ones are from teachers' subjective selections, such as mega-language comes first, the content which will arouse less errors should be taught before the ones with more errors.As a complete language system, JY -language has various layers from general angel and special angel. From the perspective of being a part of ordinary class, JY-language includes the language for introduction, explanation and so on .From that of being the language to teach a second language , it can be divided into different sub-languages for countries, ethnic groups, phonetics, pragmatics etc. JY-language is a concept with plenty hyponyms.Driven by the conception of "JY-language" ,we can further extend the scope of Inter-language Research as well as solve many problems existing in Chinese teaching as a Second Languages. Moreover, we can deepen our recognition on SAT model which belongs to the Communication field in Sociolinguistics.JY-language is a conception not only to denote the essence of the teachers' language for SLT, but also bring in new scopes for many related fields. And it may make contributions to the cultivation of potential faculty as well.
