In the normal narration of modern Chinese literature history, Zhang Tianyi and his works are always woven in the development of the Chinese left-wing realistic literature. In this statement, he is usually regarded as the representative of the left-wing literature. So the gains and losses in his works will naturally be considered as the left-wing literature's. For Zhang Tianyi, it is a too general evaluation, covering many important issues in modern literary creation that are brought by the complex relation between Zhang Tianyi's works and the league of left-wing writer.Consequently, through thoroughly review of Zhang Tianyi's creation experience, the description of his unique clear cognition on realism in writing creation from 1927-1937, the so called "Red Decade" in the history of the modern Chinese literature, also his unique character and various critics from left-wing during he was one member of it, this paper tries to illustrate relation between intension, development and stagnation Zhang Tianyi's creation. The representing factor of this relationship lies in Zhang Tianyi's insist on his unique character and understanding on writing, although he changed writing material and method many times. In the view of this paper, his insist is just because of his clear cognition on realism. Study Zhang Tianyi's unique characters of writing by reviewing his clear cognition consists the main stating clue of this paper.Introduction briefly states a series of changes in early 20 years of Realism's development in China and the evaluations on Zhang Tianyi since 1930s, reviewing the reasons, gains and losses of these evaluations.Chapter one focuses on Zhang Tianyi's seeking process of his proper writing materials, stating the focus shifts in his actual writing process. In this process, Zhang Tianyi gradually established his own way and perspective of viewing and gasping the Chinese reality.Judging from Zhang Tianyi seldom writes autobiographical novels, chapter two reviews how did Zhang Tianyi transform this method of grasping Chinese reality into specific way of writing, and efforts to explore the form how novel echoing to such reality, trying to explain the reasons of the sudden reduction from 1937.Based on last two chapters, chapter three summarizes Zhang Tianyi's position as a storyteller. This character is formed by constantly adjusting his relationship with the reality. His special way of telling Chinese stories: laugh with tears.
