Study On Preaching Methods Of Christianity In Shandong Province

Protestant missionaries have come to China since 1807. After the Opium War, relied on the unequal treaties they first entered the trading ports, later entered the inland. If Christianity, which is a foreign religion wants to take root in exotic land, such like in China, it have to be indigenized. China is a country with extensive and profound traditional culture, so the preaching methods of Christianity in China is extremely important. This thesis is divided into several stages: reclamation, development, attack and renewal and taken three China missionary national conferences held individually in 1877, 1890, and 1907 in Shanghai and Missionary Conference held individually in 1893 and 1898 in Shandong as the main clue. It studies up on the development of the preaching methods of Christianity in Shandong in the latter half of 19th Century and early 20th Century, through the problems of Christian education, medical treatment, relieve the people in disaster, missionary work among woman, the union of Christian Churches in China and Christianity's indigenization.As the political and social conditions, the preaching strategies of different missions changed and the recognition to Shandong deepened, the preaching methods of the missionaries and different missions in Shandong developed and changed as well. Scholars have divided the methods into fundamentalist, evangelical and liberal, or upper class line and lower class line. This thesis put emphasis on the problem whether the preaching methods belong to in the definite region of Shandong Province. After the study on the expressions and practices of the missionaries and the concepts of fundamentalist: liberal, evangelical and Social Gospel, it should be considered as Social Gospels from the angle of theological theories...
