Probe On The Style Of Modern Art Design In Denmark

The author conducts an experimental research on the style of modern art design in Denmark for finding the gravity of the integral research on modern design in North Europe and ignoring the actuality that different countries have different design features. In this thesis, the original references published in Scandinavia are translated and quoted by the author. Using time as a clue, She introduces the origin and development of modern art design in Denmark and its contributions to the field of the design for the whole world in different historical period systematically. To a certain extent, this thesis can just fill in the blank in this field.In this thesis, the author firstly points out the background of the design in Denmark. From the aspect of Physical Geography, climate ,resources, democratic mechanism as well as society and culture of Denmark, it is shown that the Functionalism , which is concerned in the earlier 20^th century, has been applied in traditional culture of Denmark. The nature of the passion for nature and having partiality to natural materials lead to a kind of cozy human interest in Danish design. Then, when the tidal wave of art design set in, with the eutrapelia and perspicacity, they can, based on their tradition of handcrafts, product a kind of modern aesthetic conception being full of intimation, combing the theory of modern design with the traditional design culture, paying attention to the pragmatic function of products and the cultural factor in design, abandoning the over-stiff and rigorous geometric style and applied the natural and elegant organic style. In the process of finding the balance between modern and tradition, form and function, Utilitarianism and Humanistic Functionalism are pushed to the climax."simplicity" and "elegance" are the whole feeling of modern design in Denmark. "simplicity" reflects the pursuit for the high quality and a reasonable attitude to details of Danish designers. Based on the long and profound European cultures and the skill of the materials' nature, they produce many works showing a kind of full-bodied middle class emotion. Danish designs reflect such peaceful beauty of nature and life that will not render the disturbance in the sense and heart. They also reflect proper limits, moderation, expressive force and intimation.
