| With the rapid development of computer techniques, corpus linguistics has been applied to many fields in language research. This thesis makes a useful comparative study on Corpus-Based and Non-Corpus-Based College EnglishClassroom Teaching mainly in vocabulary, grammar and listening. Corpus linguistics has gained rapid development ever since 1960s with the establishment of first modern computer corpus in the world and many corpora have come forth constantly. More and more experts and scholars are working on corpus linguistics. With the help of corpus and corpus linguistics applied to College English Classroom Teaching and with the exertion of its educational function, the topic mainly concentrates on developing self-studied and self-explored study pattern. Till now, the application of corpus to English teaching has chiefly aimed at English major students. Although there does exist the study on non-English major students with the application of corpus, it is none but a drop in the bucket. This thesis is based on the comparative study on Corpus-Based and Non-Corpus-Based Classroom Teaching. The subjects are non-English majors. They are freshmen who are given three exams during the course of experiment. From the observation and the data we have collected we find that Corpus-Based teaching method is superior to Non-Corpus-Based method because of the merits of corpus. It is very important that we should expose students to authentic language materials which corpora can offer us, take a variety of possible factors into consideration to discover a workable method and improve our teaching and students'learning approaches to meet the needs of the world. The whole thesis consists of the following four chapters. Chapter One is literature review of which reviews the relevant study on theories concerning teaching methods, corpus and corpus linguistics at home and abroad.Chapter Two elaborates on the empirical study——comparison between Corpus-Based and Non-Corpus-Based College English Classroom Teaching in vocabulary, grammar and listening.Chapter Three discusses the methodology used in this research. Emphasis is put on describing subjects, instruments used, data collection and analysis. Chapter Four focuses on the results of this research, the discussion of the results, implications and suggestions. The results show that the target of developing students'ability to use English in an all-round way is sure to be achieved with the adoption of the teaching method discussed in this thesis. |
