| In the region of Jiangnan in Republic Of China,most people lived on farming,and land is their most important family property. Most of their land was obtained by inheriting. The way that inheritors sharing the property on average is the main mode of inheriting in the region. In this paper, the author sdudied some writs of inheriting in Jiangnan ,other datas of the neighbor area or the whole country, and made a all-sided description to the system of land-inheriting, which included the tenet, procedure and limits of the separation of family property,and so on. By researching the land-inheriting cases, the paper shows the others ways of land-inheriting outside the separation. The way of separating family property is of great impact to the distribution of land. This paper researched the population growth and family to find their relation to land distribution, and proves that separating family property had led to land fragmentation and a more average distribution of land among peasant families.By studying the survey data, this paper shows the importance of the land inherited to the farm economy and way of life.It also explores the relationship between the inheritance of land and land transfers, and discovered that the vast majority of farm in the region saled and pawed their land only in a very small scale , thus inheriting is the principal way in the transfer of land. In the peasant class, inheritance of land, directly affecting the development of a farm. The popularity of YongDian system in the region also affected the configuration of land inherited.In Zhejiang Pinghu county, for example ,of the property right of land people inherited, most were the usufruct, and ownership the least. There were differences between the urban and rural area too.Reverse to the rural region where people mostly got usufruct from their parents, the ones in city mainly inherited the ownership,they were also more dependent on inheriting to get land.
