The thesis makes an analysis of "a reform to the sense of beauty", which is the subject of The Temple of the Golden Pavilion (1956) written by Yukio Mishima (1925-1970) . It puts particular emphasis on Yukio Mishima's purpose of writing, analyzes the reason why he wants to carry out the reform and how to carry it out. This thesis also analyzes how the reform is reflected in The Temple of the Golden Pavilion.Plenty of research has been done into the purpose of Yukio Mishima's writing, and many worthwhile ideas have been put forward. Some hold the opinion that The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is a concept novel, which is shared by the author of this thesis after a close analysis of the novel itself.Secondly, some critics consider Yukio Mishima's writing purpose lies in "a reform to the sense of beauty". But others point out that this reform is "a creation of the sense of beauty" in essence. Based on Yukio Mishima's interpretation of this novel, this thesis attempts to prove that the writer was trying to seek "traditional Japanese beauty" as his purpose of the novel. At last, after analyzing the Japanese beauty expressed by Yukio Mishima in both words and in his particular way of writing, this thesis stresses that his purpose of writing the novel is definitely to seek "traditional Japanese beauty".This thesis focuses on the "the beauty of colors and their descriptions" in the analysis of Yukio Mishima's particular way of writing.
