The Changes Of Woman's Status In Tang Ynasty

In ancient china, the relationship between man and woman is generalized as "man is superior to woman", which is varied at different historical stage, and is represented basically as the position of man and woman in marriage. This paper focused on the status for woman in Tang Dynasty, and it studied the characteristics of woman in that time through the woman's position in marriage. This paper also discussed the people's thought to marriage at fore-and-aft stage in Tang Dynasty, the changes of woman's position in marriage, and the relationship between these changes and social change.The paper consists of five parts. The introduction reviews the reason of selecting this subject, present researches, research approach and main topics. The second part discusses transition process about people's thought to marriage from emphasizing mate's family status at prior period to mate's talent and wealth at median and post stages. The third part comprehensively analyzes the changes of woman's position in marriage at prior and post stages from four aspects: woman's idea for chastity, the condition of selection mate, the condition of divorce, and woman's position in a family, and expounded the change of people's thought for marriage influencing to woman's position. The fourth part analyzes the relationship between the change of people's thought to marriage as well as change of woman's position and social revolution at median stage from economy, politic, culture, education, and nationality. The last part is the summary.
