The Hunan Longhui Yao Nationality Across Stitch Work's Plastic And Application Study

In this paper, a systematic investigation of the origin and evolution of across stitch work Flower Yao and its plastic factors and design idea is conducted. Moreover, the relation between across stitch works Flower Yao and modern graphic design is explored with an aim to provide the theoretical guidance and support for the application of the folk artistic design factors of Flower Yao to modern artistic design.Ethnic minority culture, an essential part of Chinese traditional culture, has always been a central subject of scholars in many fields. Flower Yao ethnic group is a small branch of the Yao nationality. In recent years, many essays centering on the culture of Flower Yao appeared, most of which were rich in information about the origin, history, language, customs and habits of Flower Yao. They made little reference to its special clothing. In the hope of making some contributions to the beloved Flower Yao, the author carries out a relatively systematic study of its artistic features, forms and plastic awareness. Moreover, the combination of Flower Yao's construction forms, creative awareness together with its totem schema and the application of them in modern graphic design are discussed from a theoretical perspective. It is of great significance. On the one hand, the research contributes a lot to the inheritance and further development of our traditional ethnical culture. On the other hand, it will be of great help for graphic design to absorb the essence from ethnical culture and to gain distinctive local flavor.To conduct the research, several methods and approaches are adopted. By way of studying written records, cultural relics, the existing customs and beliefs, the patterns of Yao Flower and totem as well, the implied meaning below the surface is explored rationally. Extensive surveys and textual research were carried out as well with an aim to gain full and accurate first-hand data, with which observation and comparison can be conducted in a more direct and insightful way.Since there are no characters for Yao ethnic group, the research is largely dependent on image study, with which the subjects can be presented in a more vivid, accurate and comprehensive way.Last but not least, it is the qualitative research which is employed throughout the paper. Nothing can be understood in isolation from its environment. Understanding involves the interaction among each individual part of a whole body. It is equally true that Yao Flower is closely related to its particular ethnic cultural background.
