Taiwan had been become the colony of Japan from 1895 to 1945. In order to remove the national consciousness of Taiwan people and make Taiwan people Japanize gradually and consequently turn into the faithful subjects of Japanese Emperor, Japanese imperialism implemented colonial and discriminated education in Taiwan for 50 years.The intention of Japan's colonial and assimilated education was definite, which had been enhanced continuously and experienced for three stages totally, namely: from 1895 to 1919 , the military viceroy controled in Taiwan and promoted Japanese language as" The period of establishing the assimilated education ";from 1919 to 1937 ,the civilian officer controled in Taiwan and practiced the policy which was called" The period of developing the assimilated education ";from 1937 to 1945,before Japan had surrendered, the military viceroy in Taiwan carried out the radical policy which turned Taiwan people into Japanese emperor's subjects as" The metamorphosis period of assimilated education ". During this long period, assimilated education was the only education policy that Japanese colonial authority always held on . However, the policy in each stage had the different appellation and the manifestation was also different.Japan established the primary and middle and higher education system since it had taken Taiwan up. Japan colonial authority made great effort on carrying out to assimilated education, compulsively promoted Japanese and aired Japanese civilization in order to change the culture and language and customs and habits of Taiwan people, namely, Japan attempted to turn the Taiwan people into Japanese emperor's subjects completely through all kinds of schools and social education system. However, The Japanese actually didn't like to identify the Taiwanese as one part of the Japanese citizen. With this inconsistent mind, the Japan carried out the colonial and assimilated education called "Japan and Taiwan, discriminated education system". Therefore, the students in Taiwan which accepted education were much worse than that of Japanese and the discriminated treatment was very obvious.Japan's colonial education's essence is colonial assimilation, its subjective motive is to make it service for the colonial rule and economic loot and not for the sake of the Taiwan people's welfare. Japanese highly attached importance to practice the primary education of Taiwanese and popularized schools so that most of the Taiwan children who were in school age had the chance to accept Caponized education, which because the young children hadn't yet formed the right life idea and the nation consciousness and they could be easily shaped. However, on the surface, it raised Taiwan children's rate of entering school who were in school age, actually, its inclement purpose was to fool the Taiwan people and assimilate Taiwan people into Japanese.On the aspect of middle and high education, Japan colonial authority also spared no effort on limiting Taiwan students to enter college and university and most Taiwan students could only accept primary education; On one hand, Japan colonial authority actively developed the technique education, which in order to bring up Taiwan students to become technical personnel and labor force. Therefore, many Taiwan youth unconsciously became the tools of Japan colonial rule and economy spoliation ;On the other hand, for the sake of deceiving people, Japan colonial authority restricted Taiwan students to accept education on the field of politics, law, history and any other humanities, tying up the development of their intelligence and national idea and the nationality consciousness, which led the structure of subjects and the talented in Taiwan to be out of balance.The colonial education in Taiwan practiced by Japanese imperialism was one of the important parts in its entire aggression. Compared to its military occupancy, political rule and economy spoliation, the colonial education was more crafty, more acrimonious and more dark, which produced severely negative influence on the education, economy, politics, culture in Taiwan society and even on the Taiwan people's mentality and many other fields.This dissertation combines the Japanese colonial education and colonization policy in Taiwan, studies systematically the evolvement of the colonial educational policy and system in three colonial periods in Taiwan, and analyzes the colonial education's various influence to Taiwan's education, economy and social culture etc, accordingly opens out that the colonial education's essence and purpose is colonial assimilation .In addition, this dissertation make a study about colonial educational legal system foundation and idea gist in Taiwan.The author doesn't have any subjective national consciousness tendency, try to research on the evolvement of the colonial education and its influence in Taiwan objectively .On one hand, Japanese colonial education aimed to die out Chinese culture and the national consciousness of Taiwanese people ,so it had obvious counteractive and destructive influence to Taiwan society; On the other hand, Japan's colonial education in Taiwan adopted modern educational system and method, so it put some good influence to Taiwan society at that time.In author's viewpoint, to envisage the two sides of the history of Japan's colonial education in Taiwan will help us to know its essence and harmfulness roundly, so that we can further clarify historical fact to backstroke the Japanese right wing's speech about beautifying the colonial education and summarize the historical lesson better.
