Research Status Of Logic In China In Recent Years

As one of forms of logic in the world, Chinese logic has long and splendid history. But as aresult of cultural and historical factors, development of Chinese logic had been lagging after theMiddle Ages. With the application of modem information technology in different fields and acombination of different disciplines which had never happened hefore, logic in China has hadgreat improvement in the middle of 1990's under the background of opening and reform. Due tothe fact that total level is not high, however, researchers begin to think, to survey, and to discusssome problems in disciplinary construction and development. Hence, there were many papersabout the state of logic, such as A Summary of Chinese Logic for a Hundred Years (SunZhong-yuan), On the Development and Construction of the Discipline of Logic in China (CaiShu-shan), etc.These achievements not only included experience and problems in research, but also putforward proper plans and prospects for logic. But these works were discussed by experts usingqualitative analysis; by this method it is impossible to avoid subjectivity and hard to explore thegeneral situation as well as trends of disciplinary development In order to enhance theobjectivity and persuasiveness, it is important to use quantitative analysis to analyzeachievements deeply and generally in terms of mathematics and statistical knowledge.Considering the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,two ways were synthesized to research the status of logic in recent years. The main method wasquantitative analysis.The author completed the research from seven aspects: academic productivity, situation ofresearchers, force of academic influence, academic activity from 1996 to 2005, logic research incollege, problems in study and trends of research in the near future. The statistical data wereobtained by searching database of CNKI and People's University of China Logic Science, websiteof SINOSS, etc, and referring to the Current Situation and Development Trend of Humanities &Social Science. Software like Microseft Office Access, Mathematica and SPSS were used forassisting data analysis.This thesis has many significations, like summarizing the experience and problems inresearch, putting forward proper plans and prospects for logic, promoting deep development oflogic research, and helping decision-makers make decisions for the development of Humanities& Social Science.
