Due to the undeniable existence of different cultural background and different aesthetic appreciation manners between the Chinese and western cultures, the phenomenon of deceptive equivalence, a seemingly perfect and equivalent transference of aesthetic elements fails to be accepted by target language readers, will inevitably occur in classical Chinese poetry translation. The emergence of deceptive equivalence will be discussed through aesthetics of reception theories and the comparative study of Chinese and western poetry and cultures.As Ezra Pound is the outstanding translator who had introduced some of the classical Chinese poetry to the western culture, the translation strategies and theories of Pound will also be analyzed. Through studying the seemingly unfaithful translation of Ezra Pound, tentative solutions found in his translation will be proposed. Now that the deceptive equivalence is inevitable in classical Chinese poetry translation, translators should try to promote more perfected translation techniques in order to enhance mutual understanding between the two cultures.
