"Deceptive Equivalence" In Chinese-English Classical Poetry Translation

It is believed that a perfect transference of the "spirit" of the original poem can justifiably guarantee a successful translation. However, the author thinks otherwise. Due to the undeniable existence of different aesthetic appreciation manner between the Chinese and Western culture, the phenomenon of deceptive equivalence, i.e., a successful transference of aesthetic elements in original poem fails to be accepted by target readers, will be inevitably aroused in the translation of ancient Chinese verses. The origin will be discussed by using aesthetics of reception theories and a comparative study between Chinese and western poetry; then on the abovementioned basis will the dual reception process in translation be discussed later on.Some solutions are also posed with the purpose to guarantee a better possible presentation of unique cultural and aesthetic characteristics ,so that mutual understanding and introduction between different cultural treasures can be promoted, achieving a common prosperity among a great cultural vision.Key Words:...
