In recent years, a mighty curriculum reform in College English teaching has been vigorously carried out in China. The New College English Curriculum Requirements (for Trial Implementation) highly advocates the use of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), in which teachers involve the students'active participation in the task performance so as to help them learn English through doing things such as thinking, discussing, cooperating and communicating and so on. It is generally accepted that using language to finish tasks can improve language learning. To communicate by selecting the targeted language, we can express our complicated feelings and knowledge through speaking and writing, receive and process through listening and reading so as to achieve the best learning result.The study of Task-Based Language Teaching began in the late 70s and the early 80s. A number of scholars have studied in this area and gained a lot of achievements. At the end of last century, this approach was introduced to China. Many papers provide a lot of valuable suggestion for TBLT. However, until now, the previous research on TBLT mostly focuses on theories. The achievement in practical research is far more inadequate. Nowadays, TBLT is being implemented in different areas of China. The author also implemented TBLT in college English class with the aid of information technology. After one–semester experiment, some advantages and disadvantages of the TBLT with information technology method are found out.This thesis considers that under information technology environment task-based language teaching will improve college students'English learning much more effective than traditional teaching methods and discusses its implication. The general approaches used in this study are experimental and action researches. Some questionnaires and interviews also have been given to college students to get their opinions about the comparison between the task-based language teaching with information technology method and the traditional teacher-centered method. The fundamental purpose of this thesis is to improve college English teaching efficiency through implementing TBLT under information technology environment and shed light on college English teaching reform.
