In the current college classroom, there are many problems which are paid attention to the education circles. And the problem of the students’ participation in the classroom is particularly prominent. English is a compulsory course in University, and the country propose obligatory requirement for every college graduate. In our current education mode, the main way for students to learn English is still classroom learning. Therefore, it is an important research topic to improve students’ participation in college English classroom. In 2007, the Ministry of Education promulgated the College English curriculum requirements, which proposed “ College English curriculum should extensive use of advanced information technology. Develop and construct all kinds of curriculum based on computer and network to provide good language learning environment and conditions for students.”In this context, the college English class has been greatly improved in all aspects, but its’ problem is also very obvious.The core research problem is the“under the background of information technology, how to improve the students participation of College English classroom”in this passage. Many researchers have pointed out that information technology not only can effectively improve the students’ classroom participation, but also has an important role in improving the education and teaching. But seeing from the live observation of a "211" College the author chooses, in the context of information technology, students participation is still bad in college English class. Rethink profoundly reasons and put forward some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.From the theoretical level, information technology can indeed help students to improve their classroom participation. This article discussed mainly four aspects that information technology is helpful to students’ classroom participation, which are active participation in classroom, depth participation, multiple perspectives participation, full participation in classroom. But knowing from the live observation and investigation in college English classroom, the way of students’ classroom participation is single, and most of the students are passive participation or drop out of participation. Analysis of the reasons of these problems from the following several aspects: the first, teachers are lack of ability to use information technology,because mainly of being short of knowledge, handling, and use of information technology. The second, students are lack of ability to use information technology. The paper analyzes some reasons,including the students’ understanding of information technology, classroom participation ability and personality characteristics. The third, information technology itself has some problems, which are lack of information technology equipment and resource. On this basis, the article puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, including changing teachers’ information technology perception, improving students’ ability of using information technology and increasing information technology support.
