the Flooding Area of Yellow River Sketching, which was created in 1946,is the representative works of Huang Zhou's early artistic creations. He vividly portrays many touching images of victims in the flooding area, and depicts the real scenes of living in that area from various angles. This works, which has a high reality, and reveals Huang Zhou's outstanding creation competence, plays an important role in study Huang's artistic ideas, experience and evolution of his style for its significance and specific characters.This paper expounds the Flooding Area of Yellow River Sketching through visual materials under the historical, cultural background at that time. It analyzes the works from two aspects: content and form. First, to proof its content and themes has made an important breakthrough in creation ideas and themes of Chinese traditional figural painting; second, to discuss the intense spirit of critical realistic and humanism. Then, the author analyzes its form with contrastive method to discuss the artistic characteristics and the influence that Huang was exerted at that time. Finally, this paper will discuss the relation between the Flooding Area of Yellow River Sketching and Huang's early growth through analyzing the creation context.
