There are many ruminating things in the history of Chinese painting whose hidden value with the characteristics of contemporary era needs further research and discovery. The development of arts is to create and innovate."No changes, no developments."However, ignorance and misreading of the nature and traditions make it a fact that nowadays'landscape painting has became an inelegant art. Thus, this requires us to reconsider the traditions and creation, and to face the nature and man himself. W e need to trace the origin of brilliant ancient painting thoughts, learn from them and make creations on this basis, expressing our true feelings toward new life with emotion and skills.By studying the thought of the Northern Song Dynasty painting artist Guo Xi, this article systematically explains the ideological content of his works"Linquan Gaozhi"from his basis argument on Confucian thought to the intentions of Taoism for naturalization. From the painting principle of nonstop truth pursuit to the aesthetics tendency of seeking peace and tranquility, this article summarizes his unique painting thought of personification of the nature, the pursuit of peace development, and highly realistic approach and literati painting style. Moreover, this article illustrates the above theories with his representative works, and combines the theories and works organically, not only depending on the list or quotation of simple historical materials,but makingan overall study of Guo's painting thoughts by the text mode. Based on this, this paper is divided into three parts:Part I: With Guo Xi'fusion style of the"WTO Unique"as startups, the analysis focuses on the main reasons causing the uncertainty and ambiguity of its position in arts: a strategy that few causes harm, no traditional painting, the depression, and the WTO Unique. Part II: By analyzing Guo's representative works and his theories, this part makes a detailed analysis of his overall construction plan. From the macro process of the source, rhetorical and the naturalization, this part analyzes how the artist faces the nature and self, and how he creates his paintings, and sum up its real aesthetic value. It mainly includes: the personification of the natural landscape on the basis of Confucian thought, the development from three"long"term to the pursuit of peace ,the methodical structures of the traditional practice of arguments seeking to limit the realistic style of landscape painting, the outside and inside tranquility leading landscape painting to literati painting. And also, with the combination of his"Early Spring"and other works, this part make a reflection of the above theories, and trace the evolution of Guo Xi's overall painting theories in his theories and his works which is the focus of this paper.Part III: With the examples of Guo Xi's painting theories, this part explains how contemporary landscape painting artists should face the nature and traditions: truly face the nature and self, and honestly express the nature and self. We should make harmonious heritage of the aesthetic essence of traditional Chinese painting, of his thinking and skills from the plot and painting attitude to create new era of landscape painting.
