In two experiments, we used 2×3×2 mixed design, and the reading time of the critical sentence was the dependent variable, tested when reading predictable and retrospective texts, the effects of the time representation and age on the situation model processing of texts. The results indicated:(1) whatever reading predictable texts or retrospective texts, time interval was the important factor for situation model processing, the results supported the scenario model.(2)when reading predictable texts, age difference affected the situation model processing, but when reading retrospective texts, two age groups had no difference on the situation model processing.(3)when reading predictable texts, only the event in the text was explicitly discontinuous, the reading time of the critical sentence supported the scenario model, but in retrospective texts, this effect disappeared.(4)when college students read texts with explicitly discontinuous and long time interval, they could use their cognitive resources to update situation model.
