Qing dynasty is the fastigium study period of archaic Chinesephonology, The scholars who were engaged in the study of archaic Chinesephonology took full advantage of the pictophonetic characters inshuowenjiezi. and wrote lots of excellent books. Xieshengpu is one of them. Itwas formed in 1814. the authors are ZhangHuiYan and ZhangChengSun. theyare father and son. It is based on shijing for longitude. and meanwhile,shuowenjiezi for latitude. It differentiates rhyme units by rhyme and mergesrhyme. meanwhil. it makes use of the tone to harmony the characters in theshuowenjiezi. The book partitions twenty rhyme units.and puts forward themethod to divide rhyme units—silianshengyin creatively .It made a greatcontribution to the development of the archaic Chinese phonology study.Xieshengpu provided systematic methods of dividing archaic phonologyunits for scholars afterwards. It connected rhyme words in the shijing chuciand yijing in order to see out and study conveniently. otherwise, It refused thetradional phonology unit words in guangyun.and adopt the first rhyme wordsin shijing as the phonology unit words. It is his original creationThe article analyses the condition of archaic Chinese phonology researchin mid-period Qing dynasty systematicly. And also introduces the writenbackground, author, edition, figure and content, in addition, displays thearchaic Chinese phonology attitude of the father and his son clearly, as awhole, Xieshengpu make full use of shuowenjiezi to pursue the archaicChinese phonology. and can be a good reference to other works directly.
