Research On Archaic Chinese Vowel Of Bernhard Karlgren’s Grammata Serica Recensa

Grammata Serica Recensa is Bernhard Karlgren’s classical book about the study of Archaic Chinese, it fully demonstrates the important achievements in the Axchaic Chinese study. Basing on the foundation of the Grammata Serica Recensa’s in-depth study and interpretation,combining with a large number of forms, the article describes in detail in these four aspects from the ancient rhyme, the main vowel of the ancient times, the medial of the ancient times, the ending of the ancient times to elaborate that Bernhard Karlgren’s studies of ancient vowel system have made great achievements and appear some shortcomings. Meanwhile, the article also elaborates the relationship between ancient rhyme construction and XieSheng Principle,investigates his practice of XieSheng Principle,summes up his ancient rhyme’s contributions and deficiencies by using XieSheng Principle. In short, by studying the Grammata Serica Recensa, we attempt to show the face of Chinese ancient vowel system which can lay the foundation for future researchers to further study of ancient vowel system and make the study of Archaic Chinese extend to deeper direction.
