In recent years, Milan Kundera's novels have been aroused greatinterest in readers and the related critics for their adoption of narrativetechniques and narrative strategies, which have innovated the mode ofnovels, besides their overt political color and strong philosophicalcriticism. By analyzing the narrative art of Milan Kundera's novel, we canperceive the essence of the narrative art of Milan Kundera's novel,summarize his inheritance and development of this art, and finally theorigin of his unique narrative art.Chapter One analyzes the narrative structure of Kundera's novels.Kundera emphasize the freedom of textual form, which is represented inthe complex and illegible narrative structure of his novels. Themultileveled frame and the opening ending combine to form the complexand unique narrative structure in his novels.Chapter two discusses and analyze the narrative point of view inKundera's novels. By interweaving different kinds of narrative point ofview, Kundera has created a symphony-like novel world, in which thehistoric truth, the narrator's philosophical reflection on it, and theideology of the narrator have been the indispensable elements to thenovels. They correspond with each other, leading readers into theideological world one by one.Chapter Three focuses on the narrative time in Kundera's novels. Toresist against the linearity and continuity of narrative time in thetraditional narrative, the linearity of time by devices of time order,duration, frequency and ellipse, through which Kundera expresssymbolically his feeling about the era.Chapter Four is centered on the summary of Kundera's challenge to the stylistic pattem of novels. In his novels, Kundera has combined fitlyinnovation and tradition, which is a kind of refusal of the tradition.In conclusion, this thesis attempts to do a unitary and systemic studyon the narrative art of Milan Kundera's novels. The writer hopes thenovelists in China can get some novelty thoughtways or inspiration fromthis study.
