Zhao Mengfu was one of the prestigious masters in calligraphy, painting and literature during Yuan dynasty. As the royal descendant of late Song dynasty, however, he experienced the vicissitudes of the dynasty, and suffered a lot from the bottom of his heart. Later he became one of the official serving for the emperor of Yuan dynasty, and many people couldn't understand him at that time. Moreover, disillusionment of his long-pursued political ambition also made his poetry with a strong sense of tragedy. Nevertheless, he carefully learned from the poets during Jin and Tang dynasty, devoted himself to his own pursuit and finally succeeded in getting rid of the influence of Song poetry. Meanwhile, being a calligrapher and artist, his understanding about calligraphy and drawing always pervaded in his creation of poetry, which led to his unique style. Additionally, he advocated Yuanyin for the first time, channeling off the Yuanyou style of poetry. In one word, he made immortal contributions to the literature of Yuan dynasty.
