In the field of literature criticism, the method of literature criticism is emerged in endlessly, from traditional methods of morality and society criticism to the methods of subject criticism, they all have their characteristic and superiority. My tutor, Mr. Zuzhao Gu, put forward a new integrative method of literature criticism to analyse a implicated work on all-side of meaning---Criticism of meanings on layers, in the light of the limitation of almost every method of literature criticism, because they analyse a great work on one side of its meaning only. There is more rationality on using this method to analyse a complex work, for its unique colligation and integrality.Gargantua and Pantaquurnet is the first full-length novel in France, containing epoch-making importances, and under its humorous surface, including rich and generous meaning. As a classic and world famous work, Gargantua and Pantaquurnet was published for over 400 years, but it can not be comprehended and appraised correctly. So, by the means of a new method of literature criticism---Critisicism of meaning on layers to understand Gargantua and Pantaquurnet. I anticipated to achieve full-scale of its meaning relatively.This text divides the meaning of Gargantua and Pantaquurnet into three layers, which divided into some little layers, in order to be analysed minutely. The first layer is taste layer, based on the study of folk culture of bakthin, to analyse the art of smile and grotesque style. The second layer is history layer, in order to announce the time background and trend, to expound three aspects: meecilessly criticize feukajism church, the reflects and resistances of social reality, the praise of times spitit and new productive forces. The third layer is philosophy layer, to express the ideal of "human being liberated", the society ideal of "utopia" and to eulogize the laborer by the view of "people long live", to embody the expectation of human development and ultimte care of human being of Rabelais who was a humanist in Renaissance.
