Though the two values, "individualism" coming from enlightenment movementin the Later Middle Ages and Marx's "human liberation" both emerged in the WesternWorld, they have different destinies. As the main route of development of westernculture, the idea of individualism can cast back to ancient Greece, following thepreparation during the medieval religions asceticism and feudalist dictatorship. Thenthe renaissance, religious reformation and the development of commodity economyadvanced the great chance and Descartes' subject metaphysics laid a theoreticfoundation. With sustained adjustments, individualism has changed a lot in form. Butthe key problem is why people have different views towards it and why collectivismhas been used to sound the knell of individualism in west while some peoplereidentify it in China?Investigating the conflict between individuals created by labor and capitalistmodern society, Marx took "human liberation" as the new value of proletariat. Heproved the historical inevitability of transcendence based on research over individualsand social production in reality. On the one hand, the ultimate concem of "humanliberation" is to realize man's free and full development; on the other hand, humanessence is the organic relations on the fact-based level. So the development shouldcorrespond with society development.In the present case in context of globalization, it's undoubtedly of great realisticsignificance to collate the two humanity values in the same history and realitydimension, especially to explore the superiority to individualism for Chinesecontemporary fulfillment.This article aims at comparing "individualism" and "human liberation", cardingtheir development venation, pursuing the concrete content and demonstrating bynumbers the superiority to the former in history to evoke our enthusiasm to Marx'shumanity concern. The four parts of the whole text are as follows:The first part probes into the origin of individualism and its evolution from the perspective of western cultural source and how they establish its civilization andlimitation. To explain the true connotation of "individualism", this part cards itsevolution course, analyzes how it runs into a wall in the new disenchantment of valueconsciousness and gradually reveals its limitation.The second part concentrates on analyzing how Marx's value system wasgenerated based on his historical materialism. In detail, according to the clue ofMarx's logical process "religious critique——politics critique——economy critique",try to inspect and explain its establishment process and historical inevitability.The third part pays attention to the horizontal and vertical comparison between"individualism" and "human liberation", pulls and separates out edification of theformer and superiority of the latter, reappears the development and abandonment tothe former.The fourth part relates the two great value goals and Chinese contemporarymodernization practice, and under that real background illustrates its practicalsignificance and superiority on the cultural development meaning.
