Chi Li is a famous new realistic writer in China. Her works focus on reconstructing common world and illustrating common, life in light of citizens. In her work, Chi Li presents the common lives of the world through which the ordinary people's values are imbodied. Because of this, Chi Li has won herself a large number of readers. This thesis tries to analyze Chi Li's civil consciousness in terms of citizens, love and intellectuals in her novels.This paper contains three parts.The first part elaborates the narrative position of Chi Li's novelistic creation. She declares herself to be an "Urban Petty Bourgeois", and therefore she must show their lives in their position. She directly puts herself in the shoes of the common citizens and makes them have their own voice heard, instead of surpassing them. She advocates that those who have competence and courage to live on in this arduous world are the stronger. Ideal life, happy affection and elegant interest are all based on the existence. She expresses her heartfelt understanding and respect for the heroes, who had to live on in their way indefatigably. The citizens group in her works live as a kind of firm spirit, striving to improve their hard lives in stead of yieldance to the distressing life and reaching at a perfect situation at length. Love as wellas marriage is an important topic in Chi Li's novel. With regard to love, Chi Li shouts out "keep off love" and denies strongly the possibilities of love in realistic life. In the ordinary marriage life, varieties of utility factors substitute for love. So it's only the Utopia outside the world that love lies in. She declares seriously:. "One of the topic of my literary creation is exposing unreal love." After analyzing the ideal love, she agrees to the worldly marriage concept——"live every day". In her view, the stable relation between the couples plays a major role and thus the smooth marriage without quarrel or depart is enough.The third part states another big group Chi Li gears to——Intellectuals. Compared with the citizens who live with ease, the intellectuals are a group which is lagging far behind. Impacted by economic trend, the inequality of spirit and material leads to the intellectuals' embarrassed lives. They are pedantry and hypocritical, yet they pretend to be above politics and worldly considerations, but still, they finally merge with the common citizens quietly. Chi Li overturns intellectuals, descending the intellectuals who have a good self-sense from ideal cloud to realistic ground among common people.
