The concept of need is very important in Marx's theory, for it is the origin by which Marx investigated human activity basically and logically. Nevertheless, for some historical reason the theory of need has been neglected by domestic philosophical field for a long time. Until the 20th century, with the development of economy and technology, the Chinese society gets into a conversion period, and this also brings about the spirit crisis of the Chinese people; thus the category of need returns to the stage of the philosophical study, but the study is too limit. In various thoughts, Heller thought that we must face ills of the present time, she analysed on the basis of Marx's main writings and published her typical papers named"the theory of need in Marx", and in this book she advanced a new theoretical point named"radical needs". This thesis will study the theoretical origin, whole system and innovation of Heller's thought by introducing and analyzing the book of"the theory of need in Marx". I expect this effort will be helpful to the domestic study about needs.
