Textcoherenceisasignificantnotionintextanalysisandaheateddiscussion topic in linguistics as well. However, most of the studiesconcern how the inner and outer factors affect text coherence in thesettings of one language and its culture. This thesis aims to study theinterference of cultural noise in the construction of the EFL learners'targetlanguagetextcoherencefromtheinterculturalperspective. In China, even if with the length of many years of foreignlanguage education, when students communicate with the Englishnative speakers, many of them are still unable to understand theEnglish native speakers coherently. Given this, cultural noise isdeducted based on the theory of noise in communication whilestudying the relationship between social cultural factors and textcoherence. Meanwhile, the manifestation of cultural noise, the settingsof cultural noise and the influence of it on the construction of theforeignlanguagelearners'textcoherencearealsoillustrated.Besides, a research on the basis of data collection and analysishas first verified the interference of cultural noise in the constructionof the EFL learners'spoken and written text coherence; second, frequency of cultural noise in terms of the differences ofcommunicative patterns, communicative styles and use of taboos isevidently high. And among these three dimensions, frequency ofcultural noise in the different cultural context of taboos is the highestin proportion in the elicited data. The findings indicate that there is agreat amount of cultural noise in this aspect between the Chineseculture and western culture. This will have much impact on teachingtaboo usage in the future foreign language teaching; at last, based onthe results, the reasons why the construction of the EFLlearners'textcoherenceisinterferedbyculturalnoiseareelaboratedon. The present study has tried an exploration of the interference ofcultural noise in the construction of the EFL learners'text coherence.Hopefully it may bring about a new train of thoughts for foreignlanguage learning and foreign language teaching to solve the problemoftheEFLlearners'textincoherence.
