| In recent years, as the further study of text linguistics, stylistics, pragmatics and other fields, the focus concept concerned in this field -Text (Discourse)— is gaining more and more attention throughout the world by people studying language and translation. Text (Discourse) translation, as a new topic combined with textual knowledge and translation practice, can be considered as a translator-centered cross-cultural communication. It is actually the communication and message exchanged between different cultures. So, studying text (discourse) translation studies from the perspective of cultural studies can be a new point of view in translation studies. Meanwhile, in the field of translation studies, talking a lot about cultural translation has become a fashion, and "Cultural turn" has become a new tendency in translation studies.According to the social functions of text, texts can be classified into different types. In the 1970s, the Germany Functionalism School began the translation studies of associating text type, text functions with translation methods. Since then, there appeared a great number of translation studies combining text functions with translation theories and methods, but few of them combined text type, text function with cultural translation strategies. Each text type has its own distinctive cultural features for its different social functions, whereby the role the cultural factors it contains is different, some are critical; some are of little importance. So we shall deal with the cultural factors in different text types in different ways and adopt cultural translation strategies respectively. In this thesis, we'll analyze the social functions of different text types, explore the characteristics of the social cultural factors in them, and then find out appropriate cultural translation strategies to get the best cultural equivalence between target and source languages. |
