The Renaissance (1919-1922), the first student-edited periodical of Peking University, greatly promoted the translation of foreign literature during the New Cultural Movement. The student translators related to The Renaissance followed the La Jeunesse-based leading intellectuals of the New Culture Movement, and also through their own creative efforts produced considerable translation works and developed the direction for an academic career. The professors of Peking University not only offered guidance and help to these student translators, but also contributed translated works to The Renaissance. It is under the joint efforts of these two generations that The Renaissance has accomplished the outstanding achievements at the beginning of the modern literary translation.
