Research on the national defense education at schools by Nanjing National Government is regarded as an important topic in the military history and educational history of the Republic of China. Especially, the education from 1927 to 1945 was most outstanding because of its effect on the anti-Japanese War.The national defense education at school was presented at the first national education meeting in Nanjing after the May 3rd Jinan tragic incident. The bill of "the school should implement the military training" was passed in this meeting. With the outspread of Japanese aggression and intensification of the national crisis, the national defense education at school consisted of the boy scout in middle and primary schools and the military training in high school. The main steps of defense education were establishing the rules, strengthening the management, choosing the military training drillmaster strictly, combining the general and the concentrative training and perfecting the setting of curriculums. The implement of these steps were under strict intendance. The value of the national defense education at school is reflected progressively in the anti-Japanese War and played an irreplaceable role for the final victory of the war. This thesis focuses on the role of the national defense education by Nanjing National Government in the anti-Japanese War. As the plenty of researches on polity, military, economy and culture, the research on the defense education is neglected. No special research on the part has been found, so the author has studied on it with a few books, articles and documents in the hope of gaining some reference and arousing the attention of scholars.
