This present thesis is intended to make a study of Ren Rongrong's translation thoughts on children's literature. Translation of children's literature, being a special branch in this field of literature translation, has been neglected for decades and has an unbalanced development between theory and practice. Ren Rongrong is the rare translator who is still active in this field after those forerunners who devoted a lot to this undertaking in our history. Since 1940s, the children's literary works introduced by him have amounted to about three hundreds, many of which are republished for several times. Meanwhile, his translations involve more than ten countries including England, the United States, Russia, Italy and so on. These translations not only are valuable for children but also are useful for the writers of children's literature. As for such an outstanding translator, however, it would be a great pity that his translation thoughts were not studied systematically. Therefore, this thesis aims to study the formation of Mr. Ren's translation thoughts and to study how his. translation principles are reflected in his translations. As a translator of children's literature, Ren Rongrong has devoted himself in this glorious career. His abundant translation practices, growing experiences and personalities have contributed a lot to the formation of his translation thoughts. The core of his thoughts is that translators should pay more attention to the "children-delight" and oral expressions in translating children's literature in order to make the target readers have the similar response as the original readers do. This idea happens to agree with Nida's functional equivalence theory. Hence I mainly analyze how this theory is reflected in Ren Rongrong's translations. The result is that Mr. Ren has tried his best to realize meaning equivalence, stylistic equivalence as well as cultural equivalence in translating. Owing to the persistence of his translation thoughts, Ren Rongrong has made enormous contributions and has earned remarkable honours at home and abroad. This systematic study of Ren Rongrong's translation thoughts on children's literature is of much significance at present. On the one hand, this study will be helpful for those translators who want to learn more about Ren Rongrong's translation thoughts. On the other hand, this study will arouse people's interest and attentions to the translation of children's literature. By concluding the experience and lessons in this field, we can present more and better works for children.
