In recent years,as children's need for reading grows in China,more and more excellent English children s literature has been introduced to China in order to enrich Chinese children's understanding of cultures all over the world.However,the number and variety of English children's literary books translated in China lag far behind their development overseas.In addition,the translation studies on children's literature in China are also far from enough.The research on translation of children's literature for specific age groups is even rarer.This report studies the American teen novel As Brave As You.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence,the author translated four chapters of the novel.Based on that,the author analyzes the translation process in the three aspects of children language's style,accent style and cultural style,and provides relevant translation strategies.These strategies mainly include supplementation and integration for ultra-short sentences,the retention of children's style by adding tone words,the reservation of rhetorical styles,such as repetition and rhyme,the preservation of accent style through colloquial and near-syllabic expressions,and domestication of cultural style.This paper finds that Nida's Functional Equivalence theory applies well to the translation of English teen novels.The translator should always adhere to the principle of functional equivalence when translating,so that the reading experience of Chinese readers will be as close as possible to the original readers' and the functional equivalence in translation will be realized.
