The art of Chinese ancient architecture brings rich nourishment to briliantChinese civilization. We are generally amazed by the unique designs of Chineseartechects. However, when watching these splendid ancient buildings, have you evernoticed the works of art carved on the tile ends, which is just what this dissertationfocuses on?In the middle 20 th century, masses of ancient building ruins were discovered inShaanxi, where lots of tile ends were excavated. Since they came into being, the tileends have played the role of both practical and beautification functions. The tile endsproduced in West Zhou Dynasty varied in size, all of which were in the form ofsemicircles,and the patterns on which were rather simple. Then, in the Warring StatesPeriod, Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, the art of tile ends came to its blossom.The writer studies the features in art of the tile ends in cloud patterns in theWarring States Period, Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty to diclose the originalrelationship between the tile ends in cloud patterns and the patterns on such objects asearthenwares, jade wares and bronze wares , esthetics ideology of the tile ends in cloudpatterns and their influence upon the later art of decoration patterns, which is the themeof this dissertation.The whole dissertation is composed of three parts.In Part One, setting out from the tile ends in cloud patterns in the Warring States Period, Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, the writer makes a brief introduction to thehistory of the tile ends and the tile ends in cloud pattern, and compares the tile ends inthe Warring States Period, Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty with those in the previousperiods.In Part Two, the writer studies the tile ends in cloud patterns in the Warring StatesPeriod, Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, and presents their characteristics in art.In Part Three, the writer goes further to reveal the original relationship betweenthe tile ends in cloud patterns and the patterns on such objects as earthenwares, jadewares and bronze wares, esthetics ideology of the tile ends in cloud patterns and theirinfluence upon later art of decoration patterns.Through detailed analysis and comparison and contrast of the features in art ofthe tile ends in cloud patterns in the Warring States Period, Qin Dynasty and HanDynasty, demonstrating from the aspects such as cultural connotation, estheticsideology and their influence upon later art of decoration patterns, the writer presents thefeatures in art, the original sources, the inheritance, the esthetics ideology and the valueof the tile ends in cloud patterns in the Warring States Period, Qin Dynasty and HanDynasty...
