The first chapter serves as a brief introduction for the Tantou New-year Picture, which Prospers in the central part of Changjiang area, and has enjoyed a history of more than 300 years. It inherits the characteristics from the Sichuan New-year Picture, and closely relates to the Taohuawu New-year Picture, one of the Four Great New-year Pictures in China. Through constant exchange with other new-year picture arts, it gradually formed its own characteristics mainly influenced by the Chu culture and the Meishan culture. With exclusive on-the-spot observation, the second chapter inspects Tantou New-year Picture from both its natural and social environment, and illustrates its history and the development, with emphasis on human factors which influence it most. The third chapter classifies the theme, content, art features of the Tantou New-year Picture. The fourth and the fifth chapters examine carefully the art features of the Tantou New-year Picture from the aspect of patterns and colors. The fourth chapter summarizes the Chinese tradition vision language marks found in the Tantou New-year Picture, and analyzes mark characteristics and the design constitution rules. The fifth chapter analyzes the Tinting rule of color quantification and constitution and excavates the human connotation and the region characteristics of Tantou New-year Picture. With the comparative method of non-historicity controls in the cultural anthropology, the sixth chapter compares Tantou New-year Picture with Sichuan New-year Picture, Taohuawu New-year Picture, Foshan New-year Picture in the same theme, furthers with a discussion on the historical background and the developing process of Tantou New-year Picture, on its kinship with other new-year pictures, and its role in the entire Chinese New-year Picture family as well. Through the study on the pattern and color characteristics of the Tantou New-year Picture,the thesis analysis systematically and thoroughly the formation and the artistic values of the Tantou New-year Picture,and explore ways for its survival and development, so as to provide effective conservation for this art. Meanwhile, it also attempts to found a direction for traditional vision art.
