The purpose of this research is to find an effective method to teach Chinese-English sentence translation in EFL Class. The results of the research can help college translation teachers gain insights in the theory of contrastive studies and its application in practice.The past research has showed that contrastive method is a good way to teach translation in English class, but its results indicated that most of them could only increase students' awareness of the differences between native language and target language, instead of producing obvious effect on students' translations. That is not only because contrastive studies were usually applied in teaching material development, but also because although many teachers had tried to apply them in their teaching practice, most of them just made use of the contrasts on those superficial phenomena, such as word, phrase, sentence or textual, while seldom moved into the decisive element—the contrastive studies of thinking modes between Chinese and English.In this research, an experiment was carried out to test the effect of contrastive teaching of English and Chinese thinking modes on the Chinese-English sentence translation teaching in EFL class. Then, a survey was carried out in the experimental group to find out students' opinions on the effect of contrastive teaching of English and Chinese thinking modes. The results of the experiment showed that the difference between various thinking modes could produce obvious effect on CE translation, and most students indicated that the introduction of different thinking modes was effective in the evaluated areas. What's more, contrastive teaching of different thinking modes could also increase students' interest in English learning and help students in their acquisition of other language skills.
