"The Cultural Revolution", which lasted 10 years from May 1966 to October 1976, brought the Party, our country and the people of our country the worst frustration and loss since new China's establishment. And during a period of time, piano culture was cruelly restricted, limited and strangled, piano was either treated as waste or was confiscated. Even in that vibrant time, Chinese composers successfully adapted some famous traditional national and folk instrumental music into excellent piano music, which cast extraordinary Chinese national charm on piano, and also made Chinese piano composers confident in creating new Chinese national piano music that popular with world piano music circle. Generally, nationalization is the most distinctive character of music in"The Cultural Revolution"period.Nevertheless,"The Cultural Revolution"is sensitive for people all over China, so there are very limited amount of researches on music of that period. The documentations available now are some relating to researches on music undertaking of"The Cultural Revolution"period and"Model Operas"of Beijing Opera only, not to mention the researches on piano art at that time.Based on what mentioned above, this article aims to make it more persuasive of the recognition of the value of that time's piano art by some complementary analyses and research. After systematic classification of relevant documentations and files collected, also combined with the adapted and new-created piano music of that time, the writer make a systematic and in-depth research on the piano art of that special period of time from the view of music research, which forms the 4 chapters of this article: the first chapter make an indication of the piano art during"The Cultural Revolution"period under the historical background of that time and taking the entire Chinese music undertaking of that time into consideration as well; chapter two makes an more in-depth analysis on the piano art behaviors of that ten years through concrete figures; chapter three displays pianists and artists'great spirit of devotion under various obstructs through their works adapted or created during that time; and the last chapter analyse the creation characters and melody structure of the famous piano concerto《The Yellow River》of that time, and this chapter is the key part of this article.
