With the development of science and technology, the tempo of socioeconomic life has become increasingly faster, which in the meanwhile has put more pressures on the mankind. For college students, they can never just focus on what surrounding them at school but show less interests in what is going on outside the campus. Since got permitted to the school, they will have to face many stresses coming one after another in their study, campus life, and of course in the job hunting. Continuous exposure to such stresses may cause many psychological problems, the trend of which is showing the signs of increasing year after year. This is especially true for the freshmen who are right in the transition from high school to college. The feeling of being lonely while leaving away from their parents and friends, and maladjustment to the changes including new living environment. and different way of life and unfamiliar instruction methods may probably cause more mental illnesses among those in the transition.Great concerns have been given to the issue on how to help the students with mental problems out from the unfavorable situation, because it may turn out to be worrisome for both the family and the school, or in a broad sense, it is something may decide whether the socialist modernization can go smoothly to reach the final end. But what shall we do to address this thorny issue? I think, firstly, more efforts should be put on digging out the potential of the college students and arming them with all-round qualities. Secondly, high priority should be given to preventing the mental illness and happening and figuring out timely resolutions to any existing or potential problems. Therefore, it is safe to say that mental health education is the important foundation and factor in the efforts of promoting the college students'qualities. The modern education theories argue that the purposes of education is not just to instruct knowledge and skills but to make the learners mentally and physically healthy, for which is the key factor for the students to get used to the changing environment, reach out to the outside world and contribute more to the country in the future. This paper is mainly to study the behaviors of the mentally disadvantaged freshmen, analyses the reasons why such problems happen, and discuss what the standards are to judge a mentally healthy student and what significance and principle is for the mental health education as well as the solutions the school and students may adopt to solve the problems caused by mental illnesses. |
