Diwanu-Lugat-It-Tiirk (Compendium of the Turkic Dialects) is a dictionary which was written by Mahmud al Kashgari, a famous linguist and researcher who lived in the 11th century. In this book, the author described and explained Turkic languages of that period in Arabic and used a special method to organize the words. Diwan contains words that relate to many different areas of life and provides the reader with very important materials. In essence, it can be called an encyclopedia. Although this dictionary has a history of more than 900 years, it was discovered only in 1914. From 1914 until now, many Turkologists have researched the book from different perspectives and have produced a rich scholarship. Nevertheless; very few of these researchers have used modem linguistic methods, In this article, I present conclusions based on a study of word statistics of Diwan using modem computer linguistic methods; in addition, I compare these words with words in Modem Uyghur. The article includes five parts in all. The first part is an introduction, which explains the significance of the study and study method, as well as the contents of the dissertation. The second part discusses general studies of Diwan in domestic and international scholarship. The third part introduces the structure and word statistics of Diwan, and then compares my data with that of other scholars. The fourth part presents my main conclusions. In this part, I compare some words in Diwan with words in Modem Uyghur and analyze changes in meaning. In particular, I analyze words which retain their meaning, those which changed in meaning and to what extent, and also some words no longer in use. In the last part, I conclude with the achievements of the article, new findings from the word analysis and prospects for future research.
