Thesis On The Change Of The Relationship Between Two Sexes In The Lover Novels Of The Late Qing And The Beginning Of The Republic

The famous incident of Wu defend political reform happened in1898 when it was just in the late period of the Qing Dynasty, and then theChinese history came into the society transforming period of the lateQing and the beginning of the Republic. Before The New CultureMovement had happened ,just from 1898 to1919,the Chinese society hadbeen in the stage in which the society fissed painfully from the traditionform to the modem form, and the Chinese literature obviously appeared acharacteristic of transiting and changing.We could say that the Chineseliterature begined the changing course from tradition to modern. In thisthesis, after taking the lover novels which were written from 1898 to1919 as the object of study and taking the relationship between two sexesas the visual angle, the author analyses and compares the three period ofthe lover novels. The author reveals that there were changes in therelationship between two sexes: On one side, the identity of the man andthe woman changed from prostitute and whoremaster to the giftedscholars and beautiful ladies and then again changed to ordinary man andwoman; On the other side the connotation of the relationship between thetwo sexes also changed from the relationship of money and body to therelationship of emotion and politics, and last it again changed to therelationship of the inside relation between the two sexes and thelove. This thesis tries to attain this conclusion: The change of therelationship between two sexes reflected that the lover novels hadchanged from the traditional form into the modern form, and this changehad affected the Wusi new literature eventually, that is to say the changegave a origin to the new type of the relationship between two sexes which had a modem characteristic in the new literature.
