The aim of this study is to develop a College StudentSelf-Management Scale (CSSMS) for measuring the collegestudents' self-management level based on previous study. Byinvestigating more than 2000 college students from 16universities in various districts of Hunan Province, we haveestablished a formal College Student Self-Management Scale bymeans of exploitory analysis and confirmatory analysis, thenmodified some of the items and the theoretical model of it. Atthe same time, we examined the reliability and validity of thescale; on the base of it we establish a territorial norm of HunanProvince. The results include:1. Psychometic properties analysis shows that the scale hasachieved good reliability and validity.2. Exploratory and confirmatory analysis shows that collegestudents' self-management level was composed of 2 hierarchiesand 13 factors. The 2 hierarchies are: learning management andresource utilization, work plan self-management. The 13factors are: organization and planning, the ability of studyingand thinking, resource utilization, learning management,self-control, notion and consciousness, work management, humancommunication, tendency and needs, self-efficiency,self-expression and body management etc.3. There are some differences of self-management levelbetween the university students from urbia and rural. The studyshows that the scores of self-management level of urbanstudents are significantly higher than that of rural students.4. The interaction of college students' self-managementlevel is significant between grades and majors, majors and singleton.5. Based on the forming scale, we establish a territorialnorm of grades and majors which supplies the college studentsin Hunan Province with a theoretical basis for evaluating theirself-management level.
